FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

1.)  How often should I have my furs cleaned?

Furs should be cleaned, glazed and conditioned at least every other year.  This conditioning is responsible for replenishing the natural oils in your fur.  Not because it is dirty, but as a preventive measure.

2.)  What if I wear my fur in the rain?
Allow the fur to dry naturally in a "cool" place.  Shake the fur to fluff it.  Do not put your fur near heat as it will cause the fur and leather to became dry and brittle.

3.)  How should I store my furs?
Always hang your fur garment on a broad-shouldered hanger.  Give your fur enough room in the closet, so the fur is not crushed.  Never store your fur in a cedar chest or a plastic bag.  Plastic prevents air from circulating around your fur and can dry out the leather.  Never moth proof furs with chemical sprays and never use moth balls around furs.

4.)  Is it necessary to store my furs in the summer or can I leave them in my closet at home?
You should always store your furs in a certified Cold Storage Vault.  Putting your furs in cold storage during those months when it is not being worn will add years to the life of your fur.

5.)  Can a Fur be repaired if ripped?

You should have any small rips, seams or tears repaired immediately by a certified furrier.  A small tear if neglected can develop into a jagged tear which may lead to the costly labor to replace the skin or pelt.

6.  What can I do with an old outdated fur?
A master furrier can take an old fur and re-model it into something that is up-to-date with the latest designs.  With advance techniques in shearing, we can create a combination that will give your fur a new updated look.

7.)  Can I trade my fur for a new fur?
Yes, you will get a trade in allowance towards a new fur.

8.)  How should I cover my fur when I travel?
If you will be hanging your coat you should use the travel bag that is given to you when you first purchased your coat.  If folding the fur, the coat should be turned inside out then shaken.

9.)  When is the best time to buy a fur?
Alan Fur has seasonal sales such as their winter clearance and summer specials as well as fall preview sales.

10.)  When and where can I wear my fur?
Today's furs are so versatile they can be worn sporty with boots and jeans for day (football games, movies) and then dressed up for evening occasions, holidays, Sunday church activities and just about anywhere you choose.
